In June 2025, a handover ceremony for the in-kind assistance under the South-South Cooperation on Climate Change "Africa Solar Belt" project was held in São Tomé, the capital of São Tomé and Príncipe. This project has provided clean lighting and improved living conditions for households without electricity in São Tomé and Príncipe, effectively alleviating residents' difficulties in accessing electricity and setting a positive example for China-Africa green and low-carbon cooperation. The project was guided by the Department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China and implemented and managed by the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

In December 2023, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China and the Ministry of Infrastructure, Natural Resources, and Environment of São Tomé and Príncipe signed a cooperation agreement for the Africa Light Belt project under South-South Cooperation on Climate Change. Under this agreement, China provided 3,100 household photovoltaic power generation systems to São Tomé and Príncipe to support its efforts in enhancing climate change resilience.
