On June 25, 2025, the "Africa Solar Belt" Program under the South-South Cooperation on Climate Change in São Tomé and Príncipe (hereafter referred to as “STP”) held a delivery ceremony for donated goods in the capital city of São Tomé. Ms. Xu Yingzhen, Chinese Ambassador to STP, representing the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and Mr. Adelino Cardoso, Minister of Infrastructure and Natural Resources of STP, jointly attended the ceremony and signed the delivery certificate. The ceremony was attended by the Director General of the Department of Planning and Research, Ministry of Infrastructure and Natural Resources of STP, the Minister's Advisor on Electricity, the Counsellor of the Embassy, and representatives from the project implementation entity.
Ambassador Xu stressed that the 3,100 sets of household PV systems provided by China to STP, aim to help households in STP without access to electricity overcome lighting challenges through clean energy. She expressed confidence that the successful implementation of the project will not only light up the lives of the people in STP but also shine a light on the prospects of bilateral cooperation.
Minister Adelino Cardoso, on behalf of the STP government, expressed gratitude to President Xi Jinping for his concern to STP and China-Africa cooperation, as well as for the unwavering support from the Chinese government and people in helping STP achieve carbon reduction goals and the 2030 Agenda. He believed that future practical cooperation between the two countries will yield even more fruitful results.
Prior to the ceremony, the project implementation entity conducted technical training on household PV systems. The training equipped STP trainees with skills in system installation, troubleshooting, daily maintenance, and safe operation, providing technical assurance for the efficient functioning and long-term upkeep of the project after its deployment.

The "Africa Solar Belt" Program under the South-South Cooperation on Climate Change aims to establish a demonstration belt for China-Africa cooperation on solar PV resource utilization through material assistance, dialogue and exchanges, joint research, and capacity building. This program will support African countries in pursuing green and low-carbon development. As the first delivered project under the "Africa Solar Belt" program, the project was implemented and managed by the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center, under the guidance of the Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
