On April 22, 2026, World Earth Day, the handover ceremony for the China-aided Household Solar Photovoltaic System Project for Antigua and Barbuda under the South-South Cooperation for Addressing Climate Change was held in St. John’s, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda. H.E. Jiang Wei, Chinese Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, representing the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and H.E. Molwyn Joseph, Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Environment, jointly attended the ceremony and signed the acceptance certificate.

Ambassador Jiang noted that China adheres to Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, upholds the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, attaches great importance to international cooperation on climate change, actively participates in and leads global climate governance, and jointly builds the green development of Belt and Road, acting as a participant, contributor and leader in global ecological civilization construction and South-South Cooperation for Addressing Climate Change. China stands ready to continue deepening cooperation with Antigua and Barbuda in the field of climate change and provide support to the best of its capacity for Antigua and Barbuda in enhancing climate resilience and promoting socio-economic development.
H.E. Molwyn Joseph appreciated the Chinese government for its valuable support to Antigua and Barbuda, and noted that this batch of photovoltaic energy storage power generation systems will not only help Antigua and Barbuda reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the energy transition, but also provide clean and reliable energy to households facing electricity difficulties, thereby improving their lives.

Following the ceremony, the project implementation entity conducted specialized technical guidance and training. The technical team carried out hands-on training covering the installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of household solar photovoltaic systems. Through active interaction and highly engaged hands-on practice, participants quickly acquired the necessary professional skills, laying a solid foundation for the project’s future installation, operation and maintenance.
This project is a concrete measure to implement President Xi Jinping’s “Ten-Hundred-Thousand Initiative” and the Belt and Road South-South Cooperation Plan for Addressing Climate Change, and is carried out with the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment serving as the project management supporting entity.
