Handover Ceremony Held for the Africa Solar Belt Project under South-South Cooperation for Addressing Climate Change in Gabon

On April 24, 2026, the handover ceremony for the Africa Solar Belt Project under South-South Cooperation for Addressing Climate Change was held in Libreville, the capital of Gabon. H.E. Zhou Ping, Chinese Ambassador to Gabon, representing the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and H.E. Maurice Ntossui Allogo, Gabonese Minister of Water, Forests, Environment and Climate, jointly attended the ceremony and signed the acceptance certificate. H.E. Philippe Tonangoye, Gabonese Minister of Energy, H.E. François Ndong Obiang, Gabonese Minister of Reforms and Relations with Institutions, and H.E. Maitre Lubin Ntoutoume, Gabonese Minister of Industry, among others, attended the event.

Ambassador Zhou noted that the solar power generation facilities donated to Gabon this time will effectively alleviate the electricity shortage in remote areas of Gabon, making positive contributions to local economic development and people’s well-being. China stands ready to continuously strengthen cooperation with Gabon in the field of clean energy, and support Gabon in green and low-carbon transition and sustainable development.

H.E. Maurice Ntossui Allogo appreciated China for its generous donation, and stressed that developing clean energy is an important component of Gabon’s national strategy. He noted that the Africa Solar Belt project is a model of cooperation among Global South countries, fully reflecting the shared vision of the two countries in promoting sustainable development. It will help Gabon reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and strengthen its capacity to address climate change.

The Africa Solar Belt Project under South-South Cooperation for Addressing Climate Change is a concrete measure to implement the Beijing Declaration and the Action Plan of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and is carried out with the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment serving as the project management supporting entity.
