On March 31, 2026, the handover ceremony for the China-Pakistan Material Assistance Project under South-South Cooperation for Addressing Climate Change was held in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. H.E. Jiang Zaidong, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, representing the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and H.E. Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, jointly attended the ceremony and signed the acceptance certificate.

H.E. Ahsan Iqbal expressed sincere gratitude to the Chinese government, noting that this project is both a landmark achievement in China-Pakistan South-South cooperation on climate change and a key step for Pakistan in strengthening its national resilience in disaster prevention and mitigation and consolidating the baseline for people’s livelihood security. He said that household solar photovoltaic systems have been fully installed in remote villages of Balochistan province, which will steadily deliver clean and sustainable energy to local households and contribute to inclusive access to energy sources and socially inclusive development. The use of meteorological observation and early warning systems has significantly enhanced the country’s capacity for meteorological disaster monitoring and early warning, and a more efficient and reliable disaster prevention and mitigation network has been established, which will continuously strengthen the performance capacity and professional standards of relevant institutions.

The supplies delivered this time include five sets of intelligent ground meteorological observation stations, one integrated cloud-based disaster risk early warning system, and 5,000 sets of household solar photovoltaic systems. The project is managed and supported by the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, which is responsible for the specific implementation.
