On September 12, Mr. Huang Runqiu, Minister of Ecology and Environment of China Meets with Ms. Ana Toni, COP30 CEO, in Beijing. The two sides held in-depth discussions on topics of shared interests, including the multilateral process on climate and expectations for outcomes of COP30.
Minister Huang stated that President Xi Jinping has emphasized on many occasions that addressing climate change is both an inherent requirement for its sustainable development and an international obligation of a responsible major country. This is not something China is doing because others asked, but because it is a path China has chosen for itself. Under guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, China has been implementing its national strategy of actively tackling climate change, accelerating the comprehensive green transformation of its economic and social development, and advancing the multilateral process of global climate governance through concrete actions.

He noted that China and Brazil share broad consensus, common interests, and significant potential for cooperation in the fields of environment and climate. China is willing to further strengthen exchanges and collaboration with Brazil to promote a fair, equitable, and win-win global system for environmental and climate governance. China will always uphold multilateralism and fully support Brazil in hosting a COP that emphasizes fairness, advocates justice, and fosters cooperation. This will send a positive signal about the unwavering commitment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement, as well as the irreversible global trend toward green and low-carbon transition.
Ms. Ana Toni expressed her gratitude for China's strong support for Brazil in hosting COP30 and highly appreciated China's achievements in advancing green and low-carbon transition and addressing climate change. She looks forward to further deepening exchanges and cooperation between the two sides to contribute even more to global environmental and climate governance.
